Tuesday (September 2nd) morning I had a doctor's appointment. Everything was still looking great and still no real progression. As we had previously discussed we planned that I would come in at 5 that night to get things rolling.
My mom came to stay with Lexi while Mark and I went to the hospital at 5pm. After we got all settled the doctor came in to insert the Cervidil which is used to ripen the cervix. The plan was then to start Pitocin around 6am. So Mark and I sat around watching TV and playing Skip-Bo until around 11:00.
My sleep was often interrupted by a nurse readjusting the monitoring of the baby and asking if I was feeling contractions. At 5:30am I was rudely awakened by my water breaking. I was very happy. As long as everything progressed properly I wouldn't have to have Pitocin which had been my hope all along. I really wanted to do this without an epidural. Everything went so smoothly with Lexi's birth. I was hoping to do it like that again. After my water broke I was dilated to a 2. There was actually some progression. Something was actually happening now! The contractions started getting pretty regular and increasingly harder. I wasn't as put together and in control as I was with Alexis. But somehow I hung in there and kept breathing.
At 9am I was 4cm. Then later at 2:30pm I was 9 1/2cm. I was sure tired by the time I was supposed to push. I asked Mark to trade me places and I wasn't kidding. I REALLY didn't want to push. But I did and after about a half hour of pushing, the use of the head-suctiony-thingy and a nurse pushing on his shoulder he was born at 3:40pm. Our little Isaac had finally arrived! The doctor asked me how big I guessed him to be. I guessed around 9lbs. The doctor guessed him at 9lbs 10ozs. Then they weighed him and announced him to be 10lbs 5ozs!!! I'm glad I didn't know that before or I'd still be pregnant... haha. He was 23 inches long. We asked all our nurses if they knew of another baby to be that long and none of them did. He has chubby little cheeks and is actually quite slender because he's so long.
I was group B strep positive so they wanted to keep an eye on Isaac for 48 hours. We were discharged from the hospital Friday around 4pm.

Do you feel great not being prego anymore? Woohoo!
Monette, you are amazing and your baby is adorable! And now, I'm scared - why do Dahle babies have to be so darn big?
Wow! You are amazing! I swore the only way I made it through labor was with an epidural. I can't imagine having a baby without one. Let alone a 10lb baby! You're the toughest woman I know!
I like how you said you weren't as put together with this one as you were with Alexis because with my last one (which was number 3) I started crying during labor and my mom asked why since this was my third time. I think it gets a bit scarier each time because you know what's coming but forget that it's over so quickly :).
Whoo hoo! You go Monette! You are a much braver woman than I! I'm so gald you were able to do things the way you had planned (almost)! I can't believe he was 23" long! Wow! Welcome little Isaac!
