Christmas 2008

Two Sundays before Christmas our primary acted out the nativity and asked Isaac to be the baby Jesus. I stood in the back with Isaac until they were ready for him. He had just fallen asleep and I gently laid him in "the manger" (his car seat covered with white towels) and crossed my fingers he'd stay asleep. Then I sat down and watched as the little sunbeams pretended to be sheep and stared curiously at my little boy. It was such a neat experience for me to sit and think of baby Jesus and how Mary must have felt. As we sang the primary song "He Sent His Son" tears filled my eyes. All the children sat down and Isaac lay there sleeping so sweetly. I wish I could have taken a picture of him. I felt the spirit so strong. I don't feel my words paint a very good picture or express my emotions very well but my heart was touched.

This year we had Christmas with my family in Paul. We were able to take a long break. We headed out of town a few days before Christmas and stayed until the 1st. It was nice to have a change of scenery for a while.

On Christmas Eve we acted out the nativity. We didn't take any pictures but my mom recorded it. As soon as the camera started rolling Lexi started screaming and acting needy. Isaac played baby Jesus for the second time and didn't want to lay there. It was a bit crazy but we got through it and had fun.

On Christmas morning Lexi was the first to open a present. She really got the hang of opening presents this year. She ripped right through them. Once she opened her baby stroller from Great-grandma W. she was done opening presents. She loved it!! She wanted to play with it immediately and wouldn't come back to open more gifts. Aunt Trina (7 yrs old) gave Lexi her play kitchen that she no longer plays with. Lexi absolutely loves it and is "cooking" constantly. My dad got a punching bag thing for Christmas. Everyone had a good time beating on it. We had a very nice Christmas.

Sunday evening the power went out about 7 and didn't come back on until 11:30. It was pretty exciting. We played games and ate snacks by candlelight. Lexi was inhaling fruit snacks. We also started a fire in the fireplace. Lexi loved the fire. She pulled up a chair and stared into the flames.

One day my sister and I (and Isaac) went out to lunch and went shopping. It was refreshing to get out with my sister and not feel pressured to hurry. Later all of us went out bowling. Lexi was even winning for the first little while. I don't usually do very well but I think bowling is fun.

For New Year's Eve we ate lots of snacks, watched a movie, played games and watched the ball drop. I was actually hoping to not welcome the new year in but Isaac decided he didn't want to miss it.

It sounds like you had a great holiday season. I can't believe how fast it flew by. That would be a wonderful experience to have your baby play baby Jesus. Luke who will be 2 next month, just recognized Jesus for the first time last weekend. It is the most amazing feeling when your child gets excited and says 'Jesus' for the first time :)

Sounds like a great Christmas and New Year's! And I can't believe how big Isaac is getting. So cute!

(love the story of the nativity)

Cali played baby Jesus last year, and I felt the same way--totally got emotional. Little ones are so special!
